Progressive Muscle Relaxation: What is it?

Want to relieve tension? Did you know stress lives in our bodies? Try this out, you won't be disappointed. We have all experienced tense muscles, aching bones, and fatigue. But what do we all do with that? How do we relax?

  • In progressive muscle relaxation, you tense each group of muscles as you inhale (breathe in), and you relax them as you exhale (breathe out). Think of each breath working on one muscle group and then moving on to another muscle group.
  • When you are anxious, your body is tense. When you are calm your body is relaxed.  Practicing progressive muscle relaxation for a few weeks will help you get better at this skill, and over time it will become an automatic practice of breathing in and out and feeling more relaxation in your body.
  • Try out my audio recording which can guide you through the process. You can find many relaxation recordings on you tube as well.
  • When I am unable to sleep I do this before bedtime and it truly relaxes me and allows me to discard my stress from the day in a healthy way.
